Oxide and hydroxide minerals are those where oxygen (O), or oxygen plus hydroxyl (OH), are bonded to metals. Together, they form many of the world’s most significant ore and rock-forming species. They occur in igneous and metamorphic rocks, in hydrothermal veins, and commonly as weathering products in soils and oxidised zones. Key examples include magnetite and hematite (iron ores), corundum (gem ruby and sapphire), rutile, goethite, and bauxite. For more information about oxides and hydroxides, click HERE.
