Mineral Specimens from Brazil - Classic Specimen Localities
Brazil’s mineral richness mirrors its vast Precambrian basement, ancient greenstone belts, and younger sedimentary basins. In Minas Gerais, the Quadrilátero Ferrífero hosts world-class iron ores and gold, alongside superb quartz and hematite. At the same time, the pegmatite fields along the eastern side of Minas Gerais and Bahia are famed for gem beryl (aquamarine, morganite), tourmaline (including Paraíba-type copper-bearing material), topaz and spodumene – some of the world’s finest display specimens. In the north, the Amazonian provinces yield manganese, tin and gold, while alluvial deposits have produced diamonds, especially in historic districts like Diamantina. Brazil is also the global standard for quartz varieties (smoky, amethyst & citrine).
Collecting Brazilian minerals is especially rewarding for the sheer abundance, high aesthetics, gem-quality species, and the unrivalled diversity of pegmatite ‘one-off’ rarities. For more information about the mineral locations in Brazil, click HERE.
