Baryte (barium sulphate, BaSO₄) is a dense, usually white to honey-brown mineral best known for its high specific gravity and distinctive tabular crystals. It forms in hydrothermal veins, sedimentary beds and cavity fillings, often alongside galena and fluorite. Baryte is vital industrially, especially as a weighting agent.
