India’s mineral localities reflect an enormous geological range: ancient Precambrian cratons and mobile belts (Aravalli–Delhi, Dharwar, Singhbhum), vast sedimentary basins, the Deccan Traps flood basalts, and the rising Himalaya. Pegmatites and granitic terrains across Rajasthan and southern India can yield beryl (including aquamarine), tourmaline, topaz, garnet, feldspar, and mica, while metamorphic belts add kyanite, sillimanite, and corundum varieties. The Deccan basalts – especially around Pune – are internationally famous for superb cavity minerals, notably apophyllite, stilbite/heulandite, and other zeolites, as well as calcite and quartz.

Collecting Indian minerals is rewarding because the country offers both classic gem species and some of the world’s best zeolite specimens, often in dramatic, aesthetic crystal groups. Localities are diverse and well-known, so an Indian-focused collection can span pegmatites, basalts and high-grade metamorphic terrains in one compelling region.
